Interviewing Professionals in Early Childhood
I interviewed a Master Teacher (Type 04) and a Literacy Coach. I informed both professionals that I am preparing to do a research paper. I discussed my plan to focus on literacy in my research paper. Both of the professions was pleased to discuss their concerns and experiences with literacy development. The master teacher concerns were based on children learning a second langauge (Spanish) in Early chilhood programs. The literacy coach shared conerns about supporting and enhancing family literacy. I agrre with both of their opinions and concerns about literacy. I gained valueable and resourceful information from the interviews.

ReplyDeleteTasha i am glad that you are going to focus on literacy, i would suggest that you investigate and see if the classrooms that have CLD children, have books and literature that reflect the children in the classroom, are you able to see that everything is labeled in the dominate language as well as the minority language.

ReplyDeleteI was a child once, long time ago. My home language was, "Spanish." My home teacher did not know, why i was not able to talk to the other children as well as with her. When she check my file, she realized that i did not have no special needs at all, but i needed to be in a bilingual classroom setting. When i was placed in a bilingual classroom setting, my teacher had all of this books in Spanish and English. I do remembered that he will have all levels in both languages and he made sure that he had books in both languages. He also respected my home language,which was Spanish. When i was able to understand English, he will talk to me in both of the languages. He was a great teacher!
ReplyDeleteDear Tasha. I was just with Marsha, and i informed her how important it is to respect the childs' home language. I am somehow confused, the speech pathologist informed me that i have to speack to the toddlers in their home language. The problem with this is that some of the toddlers' whose language is Spanish are already fluent in English. When i try to speak to them in Spanish, the toddlers' are already answering me in English! What do you think i should do? Should i still speak English or Spanish, or should i still respect their home language just like our speech pathologist had suggested. I guess that when i was in my primary school my bilingual teacher was wrong to speak to me in both languages! What do you think?
