Teaching children with special needs
As I visited an Inclusive Early Childhood Education Classroom, I confirmed my passion and interest for teaching children with special needs. The children were are a part of the learning community. I observed the teachers creating activities and the classroom environment to meeet the needs of the entire group of children. The children participated in activities that helped them develop eye-hand coordination, visual -motor activities, self-help skills, and behavior management. I strongly believe that the positive adaptations and support enhanced the qulaity of the experiences and activities for the children. I would have enjoyed seeing the parents and families be a part of the learning communty. The teachers arrangement of the physical environment maximized the interactions and activities. I learned the effective strategies and techniques that I plan to use in my classroom. Unforunately I was not able to meet with the chldren because of classroom coverage but I plan to visit again.

Dear Tasha i am happy for you that you passion for working with special needs children has been confirmed, i believe it is a calling, to work with children in general. It is always a learning experience when it is you who is observing the other teacher and you learn different styles and strategies of teaching that can later on be utilize in your classroom.
ReplyDeleteI had worked with toddlers' and twos for the past seven years. I never realized how hard this position was going to be, specially when we are dealing with children who do not have no verbal skills at all. I wanted to run out of the toddlers' classroom. My coordinator informed me to just be patient. I did reflect how i would feel if my parents' left me in a place i was not familiar with, "I would be a nut case." Taking my concentration clasess in Kendall, had giving me an understanding children with special needs. You will find your true passion, once you decide to choose where you want to be in. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteDear Tasha, how are you doing, how is the paper coming along, are you writing about special needs or is your research paper on another topic, well take care, see you on saturday.
ReplyDeleteYou should not let,"Classroom coverage interfare with your internship." The center should provide this for you. The center should understand how close you are in receiving your BA, and they should make some accomodations to your needs. I could understand how frustrated you were. At my center, i just have to let them know that i will be going to another classroom to do my observations, and they will find me coverage. It was not like this before. The center had grown so much over the past year, that is amazing just to see how organized this center is now!
ReplyDeleteDear Tasha it was good to see you in class on Saturday, how are you getting along on your topic, it is getting more difficult to advocate just in one specific area, anyway hope all is coming along fine.
