Observing and Interacting with professionals and Chlidren and families

During a classroom observation and meeting with our agency's Mental Health Professional, I learned some symtoms and ways to work effective with children  with Special Needs.  I was given some strategies to explore in our classroom.  The Mental Health Specialist observed for a couple hours.  She took notes and then she met with us (The Master Teacher and me).  She discussed her findings.  She also discussed ways to work in smaller groups with the children.  she was able to determine which children she was observing without us pointing them out.  She gave some suggestions on classroom management, transitions, and small/large group activities.  The Mental Health Specialist will be coming back in two weeks for a workshop on Classroom management and transitions.  Im lookong forward to the workshop so that I canb explore the suggestions and materials I obtain from the training.

  1. The mental health professional, can be a great key to have in a classroom setting. I know that there are many times, that we do not know what to do with those children who might need some extra help. There are times that you do not know what to do, but the mental health professional can give you a feed back on what needs to be done. I am so glad that you have some one who can guide you when you run out of ideas of your own.

  2. Dear Tasha. I know that you had read my post on interacting with the nurse and the teacher in the classroom setting. I could hear that the parent should have let the teacher know that her child had some shots. As parent's you know that some times they are so busy in getting to work on time, that some times they tend to forget, or they do not want to let us know. They do not want to let us know, because most of the time we tend to tell the parents that they can not leave their child under our care. One of the things that we do in our daycare is; we informed the parent's that if their child gets a fever due to the shots, the nurse will be calling them to come and give their child some Tylenol. In this case, that is what the parent did. The nurse stayed with the child, until the child was feeling better. The nurse also informed the teacher that if she needed her, just to page here.
